Lost in Place

Mark's fathers pessimistic is very evident among their conversations, do you think that this affects Mark? Why or why not?

Mark is a child trying to find the voice within himself. The conversations he and his father have together, specifically describe exactly how one would act upon that situation. His dad never seems to give Mark the response he is looking for, but Mark always remains to keep his eyes on the same goal. Mark's father never seems to change the way he is, remaining pessimistic though out every conversation they have.

Although Mark's father may be pessimistic, his mother's view is very supportive. For example, when Mark begins to talk about becoming an astronaut, his mother says, " It doesn't hurt to try." This shows the optimistic side of his mother. and right after she goes on talking about how he should try something new, he begins his training.

Mark needs his mothers perspective and support to have self confidence and move forward. The reason why Mark and his father have so many disagreements is because, his father never seems to care about what Mark wants. This whole situation seems to affect Mark, but he is mature enough to do what he is passionate about and not follow anything his father says.

  2. I agree about Mark's mothers affect on him. It's something I didn't really take into consideration to begin with. Hopefully Mark is strong enough to make this work for himself.

  3. I agree. The thing that's keeping Mark going is his determination, and his mother is the one that also helps push him forward even more
