One of my favorite artists and guitar player is John Mayer. Hes taught himself the guitar and has played thousands of concerts worldwide. He, along with others, is what drives my creativity. Some say they want to "be like John Mayer", but I say " I want to be better than John Mayer." I watch videos, read articles, and do research about what drives an audience. Although some people at my shows say I sound like John Mayer, I rather sound like Zack Perlmutter. I enjoy listening to artists like John, but I would change a few things with their songs and I think that is what drives my creative side; wanting to do better than the already great!
I like to create a connection, a link between two individuals. When one finds a similarity with someone, they join together and make a bond. With my music, I would love to bring a variety of individuals and join them together in a small space; that being a concert. What I also love to create is new ideas for my music. For example: most music today has a specific genre with specific instruments. But what i look at is the whole picture. As I said before i like to create a link between people. How do I do that? Well, I listen to genres of music that before I would never listen too. I see what I like about those artists or songs and combined them with my style of music. Combining these genres with my music, I believe that I will get people to come together for one night and have an experience of a lifetime.
My creative process could start anywhere at any time. I could be walking down the street and create a beat in my head. Or sitting at lunch and sing lyrics to myself about a feeling I'm having or feeling. No matter where or when I'm always thinking and processing. But once I have those ideas, I immediately write them down or record them on my phone. What I find unique about myself is that I always think about what I love, which is music. I'm always wanting to be in the studio recording and making beats. I love what I do and I show it. For most their not sure if what they want as a career is what they truly love. But, for me its both. My unique, creative side comes from my surroundings. By this I mean, I came to Columbia College to do what I love and i got more than I asked for. During this bridge program I have already made connections with other artists in other fields and I can't wait to meet others and share ideas with them.
