On more than one occasion, Vowell brings up that doom can bring people together. Can something so negative bring people together in a positive way?
The question our group chose was one that can be answered with many opinions. Doom is something that can destroy communities, families, and lives. It is such a negative and scary thought. Can doom really be something that brings people together? When preparing for a disaster communities come together to work out a plan. People can bond through this. People can bond over fear.
Before a disaster strikes people will do everything they can to prepare. Neighborhoods will come together, as Vowell mentions in the book. People will make new friendships and become even closer with loved ones. If the disaster does not happen or is not as bad as expected and people survive they now have new friendships and new relationships. Is the anticipation of doom really what it takes for people to come together?
Carrie, You make a good point here. What does it really take to bring people together? Ecspecially people who you see every single day. This was a good question that really got me thinking.
