When I was younger and in lower school I always enjoyed writing in my English classes, but I felt as though I was limited in what I was able to write about and my talents were being held back. I would be given short writing assignments about what we had learned in class or what we wanted to learn in class. I would complete the paragraph long assignments with ease and be bored. I wanted to write more and have different topics.
It wasn't until middle school that I was able to take a creative writing class and I loved every second of it. In the class I would receive prompts where we were not limited in the length of the stories nor in our imaginative abilities. Throughout middle school I was more easily able to express my creative abilities through writing, not only in creative writing, but also in my English and history classes. I enjoyed any assignment where I was challenged to make the paper longer and more detailed. One assignment in specific that I remember was an essay on Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis. As soon as I got the assignment I went home and wrote the entire paper in one weekend. I was so proud of myself for finishing it and waited the two months until it was due. I was the first person to hand it in and I received an 'A' grade. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be a writer.
When I started high school I was again limited in what I was able to write and how much I was able to write. After making the most of almost every writing assignment in high school I am finally being given an opportunity to study television writing in college.
I am so lucky to have such an amazing opportunity and hopefully I will be able to pursue a career in television writing.
