Lost In Place

Mark's fathers pessimism is very evident among their conversations, do you think that this affects Mark? Why or Why not?

I do not believe that the pessimism will affect Mark in the least bit. Throughout the story Mark has never described himself as someone who is effected easily, or someone who cared what others thought. I think Marks fathers pessimism will affect him more than it will affect Mark. Marks father and Mark, father-son relation will eventually you widen and separate them. Two things that stood out to me were the fact that Marks' father thinks that he and his son would "shit their pants" if surrounded by cornered by a dozen men with weapons who were about the kill them, yet he befriended the neighborhood bully and got him to join the Kung Fu school. I also find it a little crazy that Mark's mother and father aren't on the same page with Mark's actions about this whole thing with the Zen Monk lifestyle, she just doesn't want him to mess up his fingers for his cello.
