Lost in Place

Marks fathers pessimism is very evident among their conversations, do you think this affects Mark? Why or why not?

The pessimism of Mark's father hasn't effected him at all, so far in the story. If he truly wants to do something then he shouldn't let anyone stop what he want's to do because of what they believe. Going back to what we talked about in the Art Institute of Chicago in regards to aesthetics. The artist isn't focused on what the viewer(s) want to see, rather he focuses on what he want's to see or how he really feels. Marks father's "aesthetics" for Mark and Kung Fu, we very harsh and overall rejected by him.

Mark isn't fazed (So far) by what his father believes and keeps doing what he loves to do.

Some examples of this would be:
  • He's still in Kung Fu class
  • He shows respect to his father, even though he disagrees with him
  • Keeps going through the pain
Eventually Marks father will get into his head, along the road, and will cause him to doubt why hes doing this

  1. Will, I agree with a lot of what you are saying ion this post. I like how you compared his father's pessimism to the aesthetics. You gave great examples and made a very valid point. Good job!
